Reese Sabo's Food and Fund Drive

Greetings friends, family and community members,

Food insecurity is a huge concern in our community – even before the COVID-19 pandemic, 1 in 7 individuals in Pierce County experienced food insecurity. This means that those people didn’t know where their next meal or their children's next meal would be coming from. Since COVID-19, visits to food pantries have grown significantly. While it may feel like the need is too great to make a difference, this is an opportunity to make an impact on hunger in our own community. 

I am hosting a Food and Fund Drive in support of Emergency Food Network (EFN) to help feed our community members in need. EFN procures and distributes 14 million pounds of food to 80+ food pantries in Pierce County. Your online donations will allow EFN to purchase food in bulk and transport food to pantries. Physical donations are also greatly appreciated because they provide an immediate supply.

Hosting this Food and Fund Drive is important to me because I want to support people in my community dealing with food insecurity. As a high school student I can imagine what it's like to have to go without extra clothes, vacations or extra spending. However, I have never felt the kind of hunger that makes me physically ill or depressed. I began volunteering with EFN last summer. I helped personally deliver groceries to those who couldn't shop for themselves either due to illness, disability or lack of transportation. Through that experience I learned that food insecurity is real and serious and all around us. I have learned that it is associated with delayed development and behavioral problems like hyperactivity, anxiety, aggression and risk of chronic illnesses like asthma and anemia in children. It is also associated with the development of various physical and mental health issues in adults such as cancer, diabetes and depression. I have come to understand that people suffering from food insecurity often have to make difficult choices between buying groceries and other essential living costs. I'm hoping to contribute to lessening the burden of hunger in our community and I hope you will help me.

My goal is to raise $1500.00 between now and May 24th in addition to 300 non- perishable items such as peanut butter & nut butters, canned items, baby food, and other high demand items. Anything helps!

HOW TO DONATE:  Please use my personalized link below to make donations online or drop physical donations in my bin located at LaborWorks, Inc at 6514 Wollochet Dr. Gig Harbor, WA 98335. I can also pick up donations up from your front porch. All you have to do is clean out your pantry and text me at 253-732-0684 to come pick it up. Please make sure to check expiration dates first.

Did You Know?: For every $1 donated, EFN can distribute 5 meals to our neighbors in need.
